Why Damaraland?

Situated amongst rugged mountains, between the Skeleton Coast, the Etosha National Park & the even wilder & more remote Kaokoveld, lies the largely uninhabited Damaraland.

Experience Damaraland is tucked away under a canopy of stars & offers endless views over the dramatic, harsh landscape that consists of acacia woodland & rolling grasslands.

Apart from seeing the famous desert-adapted elephant, elusive mountain zebra as well as black rhino & even lion, the biggest drawcard is the famous rock art that can be found at Twyfelftontein.

Known as the greatest outdoor art gallery in the world, this World Heritage Site is home to around 5,000 carvings & paintings, created many years ago by Stone Age & later Khoikhoi hunter-gatherers who lived in the area. Their artwork depicts animals ranging from giraffes & lions to seals & flamingos.

Activities Apart from visiting the famous Twyfelfontein rock art sites, guests can also enjoy a range of other desert activities.

Open 4x4 game drives, guided nature walks & night drives are all on offer. During the evening safaris, guests will search for nocturnal animals with a spotlight.

The area offers absolute peace & tranquillity as well as incredible stargazing – the ideal setting to enjoy & explore the desert environment.

When To Travel Damaraland is a wonderful year-round destination, so guests can visit any time!

Namibia's peak season runs from July to October, because this has traditionally coincided with ‘winter game viewing’ in Etosha.

But travelling outside of these times assures you better availability, lower off-season rates & fewer travellers.
