Why Lake Kivu?

Lake Kivu is one of Africa’s Great Lakes & is known for its immaculate beaches & warm, safe swimming waters.

Experience Surrounded by breathtaking views over the deep-blue lake & rugged mountains, Lake Kivu is the ideal destination to go & relax after a once-in-a-lifetime gorilla-trekking safari.

Travellers looking for peace & tranquillity will enjoy staying at one of Lake Kivu’s lodges overlooking the lake.

Activities There is an endless list of land & water-based activities available at Lake Kivu.

Guests can go canoeing on the lake, while taking in the sweeping views of the surrounding mountains or explore one of the many hiking trails in the area.

Sunset boat cruises are also popular – especially among couples or honeymooners, & night fishing is also offered – an activity unique to this Lake Kivu.

In the centre of the lake, you will find the beautiful Idiwi Island – the world’s 10th-largest inland island - & one that should be added to their Lake Kivu list of attractions. Guests can also visit the hot springs for some al fresco pampering & relaxation.

When To Travel The rainfall mainly defines the seasons in Rwanda.

The long rainy season lasts from March until May & during this time the rain is heavy & persistent.

The best time to travel is between June to September or December to February during the dry season.

The short rains follow in October & November.
