Why Kwazulu-natal?

KwaZulu-Natal is all about diversity. Set along the coast in the southeast of South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal (or KZN) offers an amazing blend of experiences, including game reserves, mountains, battlegrounds & oceans.

Experience Two areas in KwaZulu-Natal have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the iSimangaliso Wetland Park & the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park – both popular stops to the discerning traveller in search of scenic experiences.

The region boasts warm, sunny weather throughout the year & road conditions make it easy to explore the KZN via self-drive.

Guests travelling to KwaZulu-Natal will be able to combine ‘bush & beach’ in a single holiday. Home to beautiful, footprint-free beaches & secluded wildlife reserves, travellers can experience an array of activities while still enjoying plenty of time to relax in nature.

Activities The north of the province is where you will find secluded, unspoilt beaches that lie alongside some of the country’s top game reserves. Here guests can enjoy scuba diving, snorkelling, boat cruises, fishing & action-packed game drives.

The Drakensberg Mountains – the highest mountain range in the country at 3,482 metres above sea level - extends roughly northeast to southwest for 1,125 km & is one of South Africa’s most spectacular natural wonders, showcasing a selection of the most breathtaking vistas imaginable. Here, guests can enjoy a wide selection of activities, including hiking, river rafting, abseiling, canopy tours, horse riding & visits to the famous battlefield sites that are surrounded by traditional Zulu homesteads.

Further south, the landscape softens as country lanes wind through the pastures of the Natal-Midlands & down to the vibrant city of Durban.

When To Travel With hot & humid summers (October to April) & mild, dry winters (May to September), whenever you travel, sub-tropical KwaZulu-Natal will provide warmth. The Drakensberg Mountains can experience heavy snowfall during the winter, while Durban stays toasty around 20°C with warm seas for swimming and snorkelling. For wildlife, travel during dry season for the best chances to see game.
